Oconee County 2nd Amendment Sanctuary
As of March 2020 Oconee County Council declared Oconee County a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary
Now if you read the 2nd Amendment it states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Let me say that again as we have some people that can’t read that very simple line: the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Nothing at all about the 2nd Amendment gives anyone a right to use a gun or other weapon to engage in criminal activity, it at no time ever served to protect people from being prosecuted for engaging in criminal activities. It protects the human right to self defense that all people have. Our founding fathers understood that. Yet any time you stand up for the 2nd Amendment some people always want to defend taking away gun rights by discussing criminal actions with guns, which has nothing at all to do with the conversation.
The reason for this post is as of December 2022 there have been two arrest this month of someone in possession of a gun. They were NOT engaging in any criminal activity with a gun at all, they were arrested for being in possession of a gun in Oconee County the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary.
So how is this happening? There is a federal law called The Gun Control Act of 1968
Assassinations and Gun Control
After the assassinations of President John Kennedy, Attorney General Robert Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Gun Control Act is passed and imposes stricter licensing and regulation on the firearms industry, establishes new categories of firearms offenses, and prohibits the sale of firearms and ammunition to felons and certain other prohibited persons. It also imposes the first Federal jurisdiction over “destructive devices,” including bombs, mines, grenades and other similar devices. Congress reorganizes ATU into the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division (ATTD) and delegates to them the enforcement of the Gun Control Act.

All the way until 1968 there was no federal law banning certain people from having a gun.
The law as you can see was passed out of fear and sold to the American public as a cure for violence, no more gun violence since we will make sure that only certain people can have a gun.
As you can see this was a law passed that infringed on the 2nd Amendment rights of the people.
It was not a change in the 2nd Amendment at all. Yet everyone wants to talk about how much they support the 2nd Amendment when in fact they really support The Gun Control Act of 1968.
Quickest way to out them as to what their stance is would be to ask them if they support the right of all people to own and carry a gun.
We have seen that allowing the passage of The Gun Control Act of 1968 didn’t make us safer. We still have rampant gun crimes and even worse now that we have Gun Free Zones, those Zones have become targets for criminals.
